Welcome to Amden

Water meets summit – on Amden's "Sun Terrace"

On Amden’s “sun terrace” with its protected natural areas, everything seems to be in harmony. The approximately 840-year-old village, which was only connected by a road 140 years ago, is shaped by agriculture and tourism. Amden values its deeply rooted traditions and the values that have arisen from mountain life. In the sheltered atmosphere of rural living, a sense of belonging and home quickly develops.

Swimming at Lake Walen

The summer rays make the impressive rock faces of Lake Walen glow. The perfect moment to dive into the cool water! We show you the best spots for a refreshing dip. Lake Walen has natural, freely accessible shore areas everywhere.

A special tip from us is the Flihorn bathing beach. It is located not only by the lake but also by a stream, where both bodies of water meet in the middle of the beach – a fascinating spectacle. In addition, this beach is close to your accommodation. The Flihorn is ideal for families and groups looking for a relaxed place to swim, play, and barbecue. Adventurers can look forward to a raft with a slide, which is located a little away from the shore. With several fire pits and plenty of space to play, there is something for everyone.

Access to the beach is free for you. In summer, you can go water skiing, pedal boating, surfing, and much more. A special highlight is the boat trip on Lake Walen, which even offers round trips in winter.

Betlis Beach:
Tranquil bathing spot in a picturesque setting
The inviting green area, surrounded by trees providing shade, invites you to lie down right on the lake shore and enjoy the scenic Alpine backdrop. There is also a fire pit here – ideal for grilling! A stone staircase makes it easy to enter the water from the meadow, alternatively, you can access the water via the large rocks.

Gäsi Beach:
A picturesque sandy beach nestled between forest, lake, and mountains. Near the exit of Weesen is the attractive Gäsi bathing area on Lake Walen. The extensive sandy beach blends seamlessly with the adjacent forest, creating numerous shaded areas from the afternoon onwards. At Gäsi beach, both sun lovers and those who prefer shade will find the ideal place to relax. For children, this spacious sandy beach also offers a true playground!

Lago Mio Beach:
Lago Mio has already made a name for itself. This bathing spot scores with its diverse offerings: from fire pits to a beach volleyball court to the surf school and the rowing club – boredom is not an option here!

Old Beach Bath Weesen:
During Weesen's tourism heyday, when it was known as the "Swiss Nice," the Old Beach Bath was the hotspot on Lake Walen. Today, this free beach attracts families with its relaxed atmosphere. Located in the Hüttenböschen shoreline area, just outside Weesen, you can reach it after a walk along the Linth. Cool trees, mountain views, and crystal-clear water await you.

The hike to Leistchamm requires some stamina, as it is quite steep. But it is worth the effort! The route starts in Arvenbüel, a higher district of Amden. From there, the path initially ascends moderately and passes Alp Egg towards Alp Looch until reaching First. From this point, you climb the last few hundred meters to the summit via steep switchbacks.

The circular trail, also called Albert Böni-Opawsky, offers both expansive views and fascinating glimpses into the depths. An architectural gem of this idyllic village loop is the recently constructed bridge over the Fallenbach Gorge.

It is breathtaking, captivating, and yet located in close proximity to the village.
